It's a Crime Not a Compliment

This collection of photos aims to draw attention to the pressing issue of gender-based harassment in public spaces which in the United Kingdom, 4 out of 5 women are victim of in their life. My project wants to give raw visibility to the tragic matter, while bringing to the forefront the experiences and emotions of victims of sexual harassment. Their accounts often evoke recurring memories of violence, fear, anxiety as well as shame and denial. The pictures draw on the figure of the red riding hood in criticism of the sexist perception by perpetrators of women as helpless preys and easily coerced. My project hopes to convey the urgent need for men to join the conversation and struggle against the culture of public sexual harassment which is so deeply ingrained in many societies.
