Dancing in a Pandemic
‘The tiniest event can tear a hole in the grey curtain of reaction which has marked [our] horizons of possibility’
– Mark Fisher, Capitalist Realism
For me, feminist activism always has these two sides: on the one hand, recognising the material conditions of suffering in the world; on the other, exploring the joy and pleasure within our bodies, friendships, music, laughter. It’s using joy as a mechanism to imagine something better. It’s about recognising the grey and fog around us, whilst tearing a hole in it; about being locked at home during a pandemic, but turning that into your own private nightclub.
