About The Project

‘Work in Progress’ was a six-week project working alongside activists to communicate the individual and collective identities of a new generation of feminism through photography. All of the work displayed within this Zine is created solely by the participants of the project, many of whom began with little experience in photography. Through weekly collaborative sessions hosted on an online platform, the participants developed their photographic skills, gained a new understanding of storytelling through images and met likeminded people.

The project works to convey the continuous evolving identity of feminists today. While the rapid rise of social media has allowed a new collective of feminist voices to emerge, individual voices can often be lost in a mass of content. This project aimed to draw out those voices, giving participants a new and exciting avenue to communicate feminist ideas and issues important to them. Through their photographs, the participants explored a variety of topics central to their identities including intersectional feminism, toxic masculinity, normalising periods, feminist identity crisis, street harassment and many more. Their powerful portrayals of self through these subjects paint a picture of an ever-evolving movement of feminism, one which focuses on inclusion, connectivity and empowerment.

About Me...

I’m Lucy and I am the organiser and facilitator of this project. I took the lead on recruiting participants, running the weekly sessions, maintaining communication with the participants and drawing together the final projects to present them to you in this Zine.
